Today marks the 30 day countdown until my 40th birthday! When I woke up this morning I decided that I’d mark each day until my birthday with a challenge to jump out of my comfort zone and try something new.
Before 7am, I stepped up to my first challenge in my CrossFit® class with the “ring hold”. When I saw it listed as the bonus move of the day, I had no idea what it was but I had made up in my mind that whatever it was, I was going to try it! The challenge was to hold yourself up on the rings for a cumulative 2 minutes. My partner went first and in my mind she killed it, holding for over a minute the first time up. She knocked out the 2 minutes in 3 attempts. Now it’s my turn.
My first time up was my longest hold, which lasted for about 15-20 seconds. The second attempt for about 10-15 seconds. After that, it seemed all down hill, with holds for about a second at a time at best. As the frustration grew and distracted my focus, I finally tapped out at a cumulative total of about 45 seconds. I left class feeling physically weakened and tired, BUT thinking even though I didn’t get to 2 minutes, I accomplished my goal.
I propelled myself out of my comfort zone and tried something new without hesitation or second thought! I’ve set the bar pretty high for the next 30 days but I’m looking forward to where my new horizon will be set when leap into 40 without hesitation or a second thought!
